Why your handicap index may be affected by the 95% reduction - unless you are in a "Goldilocks Zone" and this is all changed with the new playing handicap calculation for 24/25 season starting 1st April 24.
To calculate your actual course handicap you take your handicap index multiplied by the slope rating then divide by 113 then add the course rating minus par. Simple!
But 95% is then applied when you submit your score into scottish golf.
This has always caused confusion as to why sometimes you score 33 points but when its submitted it ends up as 32 points.
But this is not always the case as sometimes you will get the 33 points.
The reason for this is the handicap index you are on.
Depending on this valaue the 95% may reduce your actual playing handicap or it may not!
E.g on Green Tees:
HCI of 15.3
(15.3 x 121 / 113) + 71.4 - 73 gives 14.78315854 so playing handicap of 15.
Apply 95% so 14.78315854 x 0.95 gives 14.04402655 so a playing handicap of 14.
However with an HCI of 15.8
(15.8 x 121 / 113) + 71.4 - 73 gives 15.31858407 so playing handicap of 15.
Apply 95% so 15.31858407 x 0.95 gives 14.55265487 so a playing handicap of 15, you are in a Goldilocks zone!
So it all depends on the HCI as to whether or not the 95% keeps it the same or takes it up or down.
